My late father started his advanced flying training on 25 February 1953 with 203 AFS based at RAF Driffield in Yorkshire. He was on a solo flight, exercise 14 which was for aerobatics according to his flight log. He was assigned Meteor IV VT240 code O-25. On completing the sortie he was cleared to land. On landing before he had cleared the runway there was a big bang and he ended up on the grass. On running clear and looking back he saw he had been hit by Meteor T7 WL413 which took off his tail. WL413 was delivered on 24 Jul 1952. Repaired after accident. Last noted Farnborough 24 Feb 1966.

He was on a solo flight, exercise 14 which was for aerobatics according to his flight log. He was assigned Meteor F4 VT240 code O-25. On landing he was hit from behind by Meteor WL413 which removed the tail of Dads' aircraft. My Dad ran like hell away from his aircraft and only on turning round realised what had happened. VT240 was struck off charge on this date. My Dads caption for the photo is "Mating season for Meteor's"

operated by 79 Sq / 1 TWU. Built for the RAF as VZ467 in 1950. Registered as G-METE in 1991 then VH-MBX in 2001.

Operated by the Central Flying School as part of the Vintage Pair. On a refuelling stop on a sunny Sunday at EMA. Delivered to the RAF in 1950. Sadly lost in a collision with the Vampire at the Mildenhall Air Fete on 25 May 1986.

On display at the first open day at the IWM Duxford facility. Presented to the Imperial War Museum and displayed at Lambeth in 1963 and moved to Duxford in 1973. Still present in 2023.

Seen at the first open day at the IWM Duxford facility. From 229 OCU, in "shadow" 79 Sqdn markings. Participated in the flying display. Disposed of in February 1976. To SWWAPS Lasham in 1980, to Booker in 2010. Subsequently preserved by the Speke Aviation Heritage Group.

WS776 was built by Armstrong Whitworth at Coventry and delivered to the RAF on 22 February 1954. As with many military aircraft at that time, it had a short front-line career and by 1961 was relegated to display duties on the gate at RAF North Luffenham, where it stood until the late 1990s. Bournemouth Aviation Museum acquired the aircraft in 2005 and reassembled it for display. It remains in good condition, considering that it has spent many decades exposed to the weather.

Delivered to the RAF as WK991 in 1953. Stored at Kemble in 1960. To the Imperial War Museum at Duxford in 1963 and allocated maintenance serial 7825M.

This aircraft captured the world air speed record of 616 mph in 1946.

Originally WM368 (RAF) it is now found inside the collection of the German Air Force Museum in Berlin-Gatow in French Air Force markings. In French service it had serial NF11-14, but the last two have been painted over or removed.

Displayed at the entrance to Staverton from 1976. Its last flight was with 229OCU coded Z in January 1974. It gained the 28 Sqn bars whilst with 229 OCU in 1973.

A Gloster Meteor F.Mk.8 was modified by Gloster as a private venture into the Ground Attack Fighter also know as the Reaper (G-7-1). The modification allowed for the carriage of external Rocket-Assisted Take-Off Gear (RATOG), an added 57mm cannon in the lower fuselage and tip tanks. First flown 4 September 1950, only one was built.

K25 slide scan. One of 41 Meteor NF11's delivered in 1951. In front line service until 1957, many were later used by the CEV for test and trials with the last one only being retired in 1987. NF11-5 is now part of the Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace at Le Bourget.

A77-851 was Delivered on the 20/08/52. Served in Korea with 77 Sqn. and was named 'Halestorm'. Halestorm was flown by Sgt George Hale who shot down a MIG during the Korean War on 27/03/1953. Converted to U.21A late in its career the aircraft was struck off 08/01/64. Its nose has been a museum exhibit until it was incorporated into another surviving airframe last month. Now on display at Fighterworld Williamtown.

Delivered to the RAF as WA638 in 1949. Used as an ejector seat test aircraft by Martin-Baker. Transferred to civil registry as G-JWMA in 2015.
