Returning from its trip to Juneau, NC16927 again called at the City Float in Ketchikan but the flying boat spent the night moored at a settlement then called Wacker City, on the west side of Ward(s) Cove. More test flights followed and larger four-engined S-42s docked exclusively in Ward Cove according to local historian Dave Kiffer. These flights were discontinued in 1940. On 7 August 1938 this PAA Baby Clipper made an experimental flight to Juneau from Seattle, via Ketchikan. A landplane route to Juneau via Prince George, Canada was eventually chosen. This S-43 was later converted to twin-finned S-43B. Note the rather inconvenient access through a dorsal hatch to keep the hull watertight. Photo from: Dan Shumaker collection

This Goose has been on display at the museum since at least 1995. It was often quoted as ex N327 c/n 1051, but that aircraft crashlanded and burned during a training flight at Penn Yan, NY on 15 Feb 2005, and was still under rebuild in Pittsford, NY by Jan 2010. The real NC16913 was c/n 1004, which crashed in Chile on 22 Jan 1962 as CC-CAO-0122. The actual identity of the museum aircraft in this photo is not known.

Only three examples of the large M-130 flying boat were built for Pan Am. After the outbreak of the Pacific War Philippine Clipper was impressed by the US Navy with her Pan Am crew. It crashed into a mountain near Boonville, California on 21 January 1943, and all 19 people on board were killed. On the tailfin is the Martin company logo. Location thought to be Alameda. One of Pan American's incomparable Boeing 314s takes off near New York. The name "Atlantic Clipper" has been deleted and replaced by "No. 20". She served on Atlantic routes from delivery in March 1939. To US Navy as 48226 but still operated by Pan Am. Returned to PAA and last known flight to Foynes, Ireland was on 18 August 1945. Scrapped in 1946, none of the twelve 314s built survives. Obtained from PAA 60 years ago.

NC19903 poses for the camera over Mount Rainier, Washington, before delivery to Pan Am in 1940. This early pressurised airliner, of which only 10 were built, was then deployed on the airline's South American routes. TWA used theirs for transcontinental services. After spending more than two decades at the Pima Air Museum, this aircraft is now preserved in the Smithsonian Udvar-Hazy Center at IAD. Obtained from PAA 60 years ago.
