Seen here pulling away from Heathrow's 28R, this is one of the Vanguards that didn't go on to enjoy a new life as a Merchantman . A fraction of a second later to clear the tail marks would have been nice, but still the best shot of the very few I have of BEA's classic red box scheme

A busy pier on a dull day at MAN with five classic types and an excellent opportunity to compare the noses of the Caravelle and Comet. It is often mentioned that Sud-Est used the Comet nose when designing the SE.210. Indeed there was co-operation leading to the noses of the first two prototypes being direct copies and those thereafter very similar including cockpit layout

Oops! A BEA ground engineer was taxying the Viscount to a parking area, but lost control and the nose hit the fin and rudder of BEA 'Pionair' G-AGHS. Luckily, both aircraft survived the incident. Obtained from a ground crew member in the 1960s.

Oops! A BEA ground engineer was taxying the Viscount to a parking area, but lost control and the nose hit the fin and rudder of BEA 'Pionair' G-AGHS. Luckily, both aircraft survived the incident. Obtained from a ground crew member in the 1960s.
