After service with BOAC (as G-AWHU), Hang Khong Vietnam, Tradewinds, DAS and Golden Star this 707 was acquired by Phoenix/Race in 9.91. After another seven chages of identity it ended up as 4L-GAS and was noted wfu at Fujairah in late 2012

N1001T with FTL 12.64; to TMAC 11.71 and then became the well-known Redcoat aircraft G-BRED in 8.80. To N106BB 11.83 then EL-AMC, 7Q-YMS and TN-235. Burnt out Kinshasa while operated for the Congo AF on 14.4.00 after ammunition caught fire in a nearby warehouse - also destroyed CL-44 3C-ZPO (c/n 24), 'Congo Army' Caravelle 9Q-CZZ, Govt of Congo 707 9Q-CGC and An-28 9Q-CZL

The traffic lights may not be on but it was certainly enough to stop me! This airframe faced a rather uncertain future as it went down the production line in 1958, being earmarked successively for BOAC, Capital and Northeast; ntu by all three. To Air Charter as G-ANCE, then BUA and Lloyd, joining Aer Turas in May 1974. Wfu Dublin 1979 and b/u 1981

Looking good in Air UK's colours, before long the Herald would be supplanted by its Fokker rival. This one started as I-TIVU with Itavia, joined BIA in 12.73 and was dbr at Bournemouth 6.84

Following on from my arrival picture, here's the result of the preparatory work by ATEL. After her later career in the UK (B-BFZL) she ended her days in Congo, crashing during a three-engined take-off from a 900m strip in 4.03 registered 9Q-CGL

This distinctive machine was first registered in the UK in 12.59 and was bought by McAlpine next year. A regular part of the Southend scene in the Seventies, she was wfu in 2.82 and donated to the Science Museum in 5.85. Currently in the Wroughton store in a white/blue colour scheme

A 1963 Cessna from Koksijde which had the misfortune to be blown over by a Herald running up its engines. Registered 1973, cancelled 1983.

Imagine my amazement as I was driving along the Southend seafront one Saturday and saw a procession of four YS-11s land one after another, all the more surprising as I'd shot them nicely just two months before in Malta. The other three were ex-Piedmont and had their individual "Pacemaker" names suitably adapted. Although this one was previously Gabon Government's TR-KIA, they still gave it a Piedmont-style scheme and name, "Suez Canal Pacemaker". The four were on delivery to PBA. N924 was b/u at Hyannis, MA 7.93

Two transports of delight - this smart YS-11, acquired from ANA (JA8660) in 4.92, seen here on a maintenance visit, and my beloved Golf GTi Mk II. C5-GAB is still intact at Banjul, stored in very dusty condition; as for E967JAJ, I don't know

Bought by Aer Turas in 3.66 and flying in three different colour schemes during a six-year career with the airline, this Freighter had earlier Irish form, being delivered to Aer Lingus in 7.52 as EI-AFR. Passed to Skyways as G-AMLJ and then MEA, BOAC Associated Companies and BKS. Sold to TAR IN 12.72, stored at Nice in 1976 and scrapped

Eurocity Express was a pioneer operator at London City Airport from its opening in 1987, but with the acquistion of four new Dash 7s in 1988, changed name to London City Airways to better reflect their unique base. G-BNGF was ex ZK-NEX and became N703MG with Paradise Island Airways in 5.89 then briefly C-FEDO with Voyageur Airways from 1.05. To Conviasa in 8.05 as YV1003; rt u/c collapse at Porlamar 12.05; repaired, seen stored at Voyageur's North Bay facility from 2007

Captured in the evening light soon after respray at Southend in Simba colours, this 707 combi was first delivered to BOAC in 5.71 as G-AYLT. Lastly stored intact at Khartoum as ST-AQW.

Seen just prior to registration 9G-FIA being applied, but with c/n clearly displayed on rear fuselage. Originally TWA's N15713, then N345FA, CC-CUE, N234FA, TC-GHA, PP-AJP and P4-YYY. Scrapped at Sharjah in 1.06 as 9G-FIA

A 1944 JRF-5 which served the RCAF as 387 till 1956, joining Chalks Flying Service at Miami in 1966. Seen here during delivery flight to Australia where Tasman Airlines intended to use the amphibian to link Hobart with Wrest Point Casino. This never took off and after storage she ended up in with SAATAS East Indonesia as PK-LEH from 1978
