A 'Special Delivery' , arriving early from Dubai as EK27 / UAE33T

Built in 1955 and originally USAF 55-0156. When the USAF replaced the last of their T-34As with T-41s and T-37s at the beginning of the 1960s, those not transferred for foreign military service were passed to Air Force flying clubs and the Civil Air Patrol. However the low-wing design made them unsuitable in the search and rescue role and wing-spar repairs that became necessary in the late 1990s saw the last of the CAP T-34s retired by 2003. Despite this, registration N8245E remains current in 2025

Airframe was RTP at Conningsby October 2018, But has since moved on to Wittering as a GI Airframe Sept 2020.

It has faded a bit since my last visit to this plane a dozen years before...

Carrying the temporary ferry registration HB-FQY, PC-12PRO c/n 3026 is taxiing in for a fuel stop at Prestwick after landing on Runway 20. Arriving factory fresh from the Pilatus plant at Buochs, Switzerland on its transatlantic delivery flight to North America as PCH6N. Followed in by stablemate HB-FQW c/n 3024.

The PIK-3 (Polyteknikkojen Ilmailukerho - Finnish institute of technology students flying club) was a glider produced in Finland in the 1950s and 60s. It was designed to be cheap and easy-to-build in order to to equip the country's gliding clubs. Design work commenced in 1942 but the prototype did not fly until 1950. This was refined for production as the PIK-3A and then further modified to the PIK-3b by replacing the flaps with air brakes. Including the later PIK-3c with improved wings, some 40 PIK-3s were built with this example arriving from the Suomen ilmavoimamuseo at Jyväskylä in 2016.
