The PIK-3 (Polyteknikkojen Ilmailukerho - Finnish institute of technology students flying club) was a glider produced in Finland in the 1950s and 60s. It was designed to be cheap and easy-to-build in order to to equip the country's gliding clubs. Design work commenced in 1942 but the prototype did not fly until 1950. This was refined for production as the PIK-3A and then further modified to the PIK-3b by replacing the flaps with air brakes. Including the later PIK-3c with improved wings, some 40 PIK-3s were built with this example arriving from the Suomen ilmavoimamuseo at Jyväskylä in 2016. This photo is copyright © Alastair T.
