The sole FD.1 low speed test Delta winged aircraft has just been assembled in Fairey's experimental hangar at Manchester's Ringway Airport. It was tested down the rather short main 4200 ft Runway 06-24, but made its first flight at A&AEE Boscombe Down. Image obtained from Faireys.

Operated by the based 613 (City of Manchester) Squadron which flew the Spitfire F.22 between late 1948 and March 1951 when replaced by Vampire FB.5's. The pilot of PK353 has opened his cockpit after landing so he can lean out for taxying to see past the bulky Griffon engine.

Delivered to USAAF in 08.44 as C-54A 42-72276. Bought by Douglas in 1946 and brought up to DC-4 standard. Served Pan Am as N88926 January 1947 to purchase by Alitalia in March 1950. Sold in 1954. Obtained from Alitalia over 50 years ago.

Named "Lancastria" and operated by Sivewright Airways from their Ringway Airport, Manchester, base between July 1949 and sale to BEA in April 1951. Later to Channel Airways and broken up at Southend in May 1963.

1946-built Avro XIX delivered to Sivewright Airways in August 1946 and serving until March 1951. Named "Salfordia" after the local town. Operated on schedules and charters.

"Banbury" was bought from Aerlinte EI-ACS in June 1948 and served BOAC until leased to Skyways in July 1959. Here it wears the original BOAC scheme.
