Reminding me of the regular visits by the Calie Brits to Southend for ATEL, this one looks as though it's straining to make one final take-off. First flight was on the last day of 1956 as a series 311; converted to 312 (later to 319) and to BOAC 7 months later. Became 9G-AAH with Ghana Airways 11.60 then to British Eagle 1.64; leased by Caledonian 3.69 and reduced to spares by 10.71

Built for BOAC at Filton in 1957 and originally to have been Srs 300LR G-AOFF. Sold to British Eagle in 3.64 and Monarch in 1.70 but quickly passed to Donaldson then IAS. To Invicta 4.76. Leased as 9Q-CAZ in 1.81 but wfu at Manston 6.81. Ferried to Southend and then to Cosford for preservation in 5.84 as part of the BA Collection. The A&AEE Britannia graces Northolt's apron on a fine summer's day. She started her working life just down the road with BOAC as G-AOVM in 6.58 and ended it as 9Q-CHY in Zaire where she arrived in 1984. Here she later took the honour of being the world's last operating Brit (apart from 9Q-CJH ex-RAF XM496 now preserved at Kemble, after being flown in during October 1997) till withdrawal in 1991 and eventual scrapping at Kinshasa

One interesting Brit. F/F 19.11.58 and ntu by BOAC, Capital, Northeast. Went to Transcontinental in Argentina 12.59 and bought by British Eagle in 3.64, soon converted to 308F. To Monarch 12.68 and leased to IAS, African Safari and then Invicta; bought 1.77. Wfu soon after photo and became derelict but dismantled and to Kemble with Britannia Aircraft Preservation Trust. Now at Speke on loan to Jetstream Club, very slowly being rebuilt and restored to Eagle colours - should look truly magnificent when finished
