In 1947(!) this B-17 was put up as an eye-catcher at Art Lacey's Bomber Gas & Restaurant on SE McLoughlin Boulevard in Milwaukie, OR, on the west side of Route 99E. Nearly 50 years later, in March 1996, the forward fuselage and the tail gun turret were removed for restoration, but the rest of the aircraft remained on display at the restaurant until also removed in December 2014. By 2023 the aircraft was still under restoration to flying condition by the B-17 Alliance Foundation in their hangar at McNary Field, Salem, OR. Damaged over Berlin, B-17F 42-3490 headed for Sweden and landed in Malmö on 21 June 1944. One of seven B-17s converted to F-17 Felix transports by Saab, SE-BAN was used by SILA, a company merged into SAS in 1948. Withdrawn from use in October 1948 and scrapped in 1950. The reason of this visit to Schiphol is not certain, but other photos show children in winter clothing who were possibly given a holiday in Sweden. The original "Memphis Belle" on display in the World War II Gallery at NMUSAF. Built at Boeing Seattle, she was named after Capt. Robert K. Morgan's girlfriend Margaret Polk. Flying with the 324th BS, 91st BG at Bassingbourn, England, the B-17 was the second USAAF bomber to complete 25 missions over Europe between Nov. 1942 and 17 May 1943, preceded by 358th BS B-17F "Hell's Angels" in this feat. She was the first to return to the USA and completed a three-month war bond tour with more than 30 stops.

USAAF photo of a rare type, the first of only four XC-108 conversions. Originally delivered as a B-17E in Feb 1942, it was converted into the XC-108 VIP transport in 1943, to serve as General Douglas MacArthur's personal aircraft, named "Bataan". Armament and armor was removed, and it was fitted with a B-17F plexiglas nose with a single machine gun with a chrome barrel. The cabin was fitted with seats, tables, cooking facilities and extra windows for use as a flying living and office space. In Oct 1945 the aircraft was stored for disposal at Walnut Ridge, AR and sold for scrap in Sep 1946.

Seen under restoration to military configuration after retirement by Evergreen Helicopters. (Uploaded in black-and-white as original slide had a strong blue tint.) After this restoration, N207EV was flown for a few years before moving to the Evergreen Museum in Oregon for display. In 2015 it was bought by the Collings Foundation and is currently (2023) planned to be returned to flight-worthy status, replacing B-17 N93012, which crashed at Bradley International Airport on 2 October 2019.

Assigned to 95th BG, 336th BS and arrived on 17 December 1944 at Horam, Suffolk. Reportedly named "Section Eight" and here seen on a mission somewhere over Europe. Damaged on a mission to the railway marshalling yards at Holzwickede on 23 March 1945. On return to England it was likely making for the special battle damage runway at Woodbridge, Suffolk when it collided with another B-17 and crashed at nearby Campsea Ashe.
