Ptarmigan Airways acquired this 1973 Twin Otter from Downtown Airlines (N200A) when the US Commuter shut down in 1975. Bradley Air Services (First Air) bought Ptarmigan in 1995 and sold the aircraft to Arctic Sunwest Charters in July 2001. Sadly, it crashed on September 22, 2011 while aborting a landing in gusty winds at Yellowknife Waterdrome. Deemed a write-off, the damaged aircraft went to Rocky Mountain Aircraft at Springbank, AB. Registered C-GAFL to Ashe Aircraft Enterprises in 2018, it was re-built by October 2020. It is to be delivered to Manta Air, Malé. Maldive Islands in 2021.

This Twin Otter was originally delivered to Miami Aviation as N669MA in November 1969 but bought off lease by Rocky Mountain Airways in June 1971. This started a long association between that airline, Grand Canyon Airlines and Scenic Airlines during which time it carried both registrations N22RM and N54SA. The plane did have lease periods with Southern Jersey Airways and Empire Airlnes (both as N103AC) but returned to Scenic in December 1991 and it re-registered N228SA a couple of months later. Scenic was merged into Grand Canyon in April 2009 and the plane is still active with the latter.

In the late 60s and 70s, De Havilland aircraft in the Canadian Air Force used in Search and Rescue had an over all white color scheme (with high visibility additions). This facilitated an aircraft's use in Canada's United Nations missions around the world where the aircraft were over all white marked with UN insignia. SAR markings changed to over all yellow in the late 70s. 13805 is current with 440 Squadron based at Yellowknife, NWT at the time of uploading.
