Serving as a testbed to study the retrofit options for the CFM56 engine on the 707. After testing in 1979, the aircraft was refitted as a 707-320C. Boeing abandoned the program over fears of hurting 757 sales. However, the program however did lead to military aircraft being retrofitted. To the Morrocan Government in March 1982 as CN-ANR, reregistered CN-CCC in January 1999. To Omega Air in January 1999 as N707JJ. To Israel Aircraft Industries as 4X-980 in February 2000. To the Israeli Air Force as 290 in October 2000. Still active at the time of the upload. Photo from Boeing

The original 737 first flew as long ago as 9 April 1967. The design started out as a 85-seat jet but Lufthansa convinced Boeing to make it a bit bigger. This is line number 2, first flown on 13 May 1967 and delivered to the launch customer on 24 April 1968. Meanwhile Lufthansa had started scheduled services with D-ABEB and D-ABEC on 10 February 1968, and the 737-200 ordered by United was also already flying. 737 production took place at BFI until 1970. Note the so-called blow-in or suck-in doors on the engines, soon to be eliminated. Photo from: Nationaal Archief (Netherlands)

A turbine powered Otter had a long gestation. DHC considered it after the P & W Canada PT-6 engine was developed in the '60s (too expensive and the DHC-6 Twin Otter was preferred). Western Rotorcraft in Seattle, WA mounted a Garrett TPE311 to N3904, but the improvement was unremarkable and the piston engine was re-installed. Ray Cox engineered his conversion in 1973 and tested C-FMES-X / N4247A into the '80s. An unfortunate forced landing on December 19, 1984 damaged the prototype and funds ran out before the program could continue with only one aircraft converted.

This 1961 Otter was acquired by Ray Cox from an insurance company in 1974 after it was damaged in a take off accident when the engine failed. Flying as Turbo Otter C-FMES-X with his PT-6 powered Cox Conversion in 1978, the testing moved to Renton, WA (later Boeing Field) in 1981 for more development funding.

This 1960 Otter was first with the Royal Canadian Air Force with serial 9427. The aircraft was damaged in a training accident in February 1965 and sold rather than repaired. Northway Aviation bought and rebuilt it, registering the aircraft CF-VVY in 1967. Kenmore Air acquired the floatplane from Air Roberval in July 2016 and is pictured undergoing a refurbishment. It entered service with them on 30 December 2016 as N709KA. A Vazar turbine conversion done in the winter of 1999 / 2000 made the rebuild a little more simple than usual.
