A very rare coloured Starlifter with serial in the range 65-9400 to 9409. Anyone know the story behind it?

Cockpit section of an unknown Horsa, the most famous British glider type. These not only played an important role during the Normandy Invasion, but later also during 'Operation Market Garden' in September 1944.

Reported as both 42-4949 and 42-19027 both of which were recovered by David Tallichet in the early 70s. The 5th Air Force assigned this Airacobra to New Guinea in June 1943. The aircraft was abandoned at Tadji Airfield and remained there for thirty years until recovered in 1974. Pictured on static display at the Planes of Fame Museum, it was sold to Fred Johnson of the Museum Aeronautica in Tacoma WA in 1987 with the intention of making it airworthy. With wartime names "Small Fry" on the right and "Little Sir Echo" on the left, it returned to the Planes of Fame Museum in 2002 where it remains on display.

Reportedly bought for conversion into a UAV. An online source mentioned the testing of command and control systems. After the tests were completed, the aircraft was donated to the museum here at the airfield. Its identity is unfortunately not known.

The serial of this Mongol-B is not known but the plane is thought to be ex-Soviet/Russian AF and some sources say ex-Egyptian AF. If any one has any definitive information to share, then please get in touch.
