Operated by 203 Squadron, based Luqa. Note feathered No.1 engine. Seen landing runway 24, this was one of the last flights of WR986. The aircraft was later transferred to 137 Maintenance Unit at Safi where extensive damage was caused to control cables and wiring by rats! It was scrapped on site and written off on 1 September 1971.

One of my early photo's taken with a "Brownie 127" camera. Bit of a dull day so that didn't help! The a/c had just completed compass swings on the southern aerodrome boundary and was being towed back to 49 MU. Written Off 8th December 1965, when it crashed into the Moray Firth

Withdrawn from use at RAF Honington in 1972 and sold to Shackleton Aviation on 4th May that year and delivered to Baginton the same day. Remained parked on the airfield and sold for scrap when Shackleton Aviation moved to Hurn. Airframe temporarily rescued by Hawker Siddeley Aviation and believed earmarked for the Confederate Air Force, but sale fell through because the engines were time expired. Efforts to find a purchaser who would preserve the aircraft properly failed and during January 1975 it was finally cut up for scrap. (Thanks to www.thegrowler.org.uk for much of the above).

This Shackleton was one of a large number of participants in the 1989 airshow at Brustem, unfortunately in rather poor weather. The aircraft is now preserved in the Pima air museum in Tucson, USA.
