The museum closed in August 1980. The Shackleton was is such a bad shape it had to be scrapped. Just the cockpit section survives to date.

Airbase was a working museum at Coventry operated by Air Atlantique and it was well worth a visit. This Shackleton nose section was found in one of the spotless hangars.

Of Shackleton T4 VP293 only the nose section survives. It is transported on a trailer. I happened to see it in the Newark Air Museum with Shackleton MR3 WR977 behind. A nice combination.

This early Shackleton was last used by the Royal Aircraft Establishment at Farnborough. Unfortunately it was broken up after the demise of the Strathallan Collection, though its nose has survived with the Shackleton Preservation Trust at Coventry Airport.
