We gather this rescue flying boat type - with beaching gear - was conceived as the Atlantic Fokker (A)F-15 to become the General Aviation GA-15. The USCG called it the Flying Life Boat (FLB). Later this designation was changed to PJ in the US Navy system. This was the first of five airframes built, first flown in 1931 and delivered in January 1932. In 1933 this one was rebuilt to PJ-2 standard with tractor propellers. USCG serial number changed from 51 to 251 and then to V116. Named Antares. V116 reportedly withdrawn in 1940. Coast Guard serial 131 changed to V126 in 1936. USCG aircraft were named after stars, such as Mizar, in this period. This RD-4 was still in service on 5 August 1941 when it struck a jutting rock near the Farallon Islands, off San Francisco. Three crew all killed. Photo from: US Coast Guard

The Piasecki PV-17 or HRP-2 was developed from the original Flying Banana, the PV-3 or HRP-1. With a new nose and all-metal fuselage it was very similar to the later H-21. Only five HRP-2s were built. Three of these served with the HMX-1 experimental helicopter squadron based at Quantico, Virginia, from 1950 to 1953, before going to the US Coast Guard. Note the early Neptune.

Three-seat amphibious flying boat designed by Gilbert Trimmer. Rights were acquired by Commonwealth Aircraft from Kansas which produced one C-170 Trimmer with more powerful engines, NX41999 / NC41999. That airframe was eventually bought by Cornelius Biemond and then called the Biemond CB-1 Teal. This one can just be identified as the original prototype, NX41853.
