This aeroplane started life in 1940 as a DH82A and died in 1977, registered as VH-BJI. It has been converted to a Moth Major DH60MIII in accordance with DH design drawings uncovered by Stanfield Smith in NZ. This is the tubular metal fuselage version of the Moth Major DH60GIII and believed to be the first flying example. De Havilland designed but did not build this model. The metal tube fuselage designed for the DH60MIII became the DH82 Tiger Moth.

Photo believed to date from about 1929 when G-AUAE was reregistered VH-UAE. At the time it was operated by the Australian Aero Club. The timber building at the right is the original aero club and was replaced by a more substantial building on a different site in 1930. The old club building was then removed and the area became apron. The hangar is Government Hangar No.1, which stood out as it had the airport name, Mascot, painted in the roof. VH-UAE remains registered in 2019. Photo from: Hood Collection/State Library of New South Wales

Camooweal, population 200, has an airport in 2019 but back when VH-UJM visited it likely landed at the racecourse and taxied up the main street to the pub. The aircraft passed through several hands after Qantas before ending up in Papua New Guinea where it was destroyed by enemy action during World War II. Photo from: State Library of Queensland

Brisbane Flying School was established by Qantas in 1927. VH-UIC arrived on the register as G-AUIC in January 1929 but by the end of the year it had adopted the VH- prefix. It arrived in Brisbane in 1938 after a string of NSW-based owners. Crashed in 1939 and shipped south to Sydney for repairs. Soon after returning to the air, -UIC was impressed by the RAAF as A7-115. Became an instructional airframe. Photo from: State Library of Queensland

VH-UJN soon after its registration was changed from the superseded G-AUJN. At the time it was owned by Moxon Motors, an agent for de Havilland aircraft and Graham-Paige cars, hence the aircraft's name. -UJN passed through many hands until it was impressed by the RAAF as A7-116 in August 1940. VH-UMO was registered in 1929 as a Moth Coupe with a Gipsy I engine. Whether it did have an enclosed cockpit when it arrived in Australia is not known but by 1946 did have open cockpits. In this 1964 photo it has an "inverted" Gipsy engine as fitted to Tiger Moths. -UMO crashed in September 1965 and was removed from the register. It returned in 1993 but with no recent photos, it may be a project and not an active aircraft. Its engine is listed as a Gipsy II, which is not inverted Gipsy.
