Looking worse for wear at the CPH fire service's training area, this former Sterling DC-6 served as part of the Nordic churches relief operations during the Biafran War in the late 1960s where they established a joint operation called Scan Church Aid. Later this was expanded to include the German churches and Caritas' relief operation in Joint Church Aid, JCA. JCA was colloquially known as Jesus Christ Airlines by the crews. Photographer unknown

When Biafra seceded from Nigeria in 1967, a bitter war started leading to a humanitarian crisis. Responding to this crisis, the Biafran Airlift came to be. The Nordic protestant churches chartered suitable transport aircraft and established a joint operation called Scan Church Aid. Later this was expanded to include the German churches and Caritas' relief operation in Joint Church Aid, JCA. JCA was colloquially known as Jesus Christ Airlines by the crews. Flughjalp (Aid by Air in Icelandic) was established by Loftleiðir in support of the Biafran Air Bridge. The aircraft were leased by Nordchurchaid, the Nordic churches joint relief operation and part of Joint Church Aid. This particular DC-6 first flew in 1952 and was delivered to ARAMCO as N709A in September 1952. To Transair Sweden as SE-BDZ in August 1961, then Boreas as N948BC in July 1965 and Transavia a year later as PH-TRC. Flughjálp bought the airliner while it was on lease to Joint Church Aid in June 1969. When the Biafran War was over, it went to the Peruvian Air Force as FAP-378. Photographer unknown

Departing off of Boundary Bay's Runway 13 this afternoon as "Everts (VTS) 905" for home base in Fairbanks. This 66 year old beauty arrived back in mid September for some avionics work.

Delivered to Canadian Pacific in November 1956 as CF-CZR, to Transair Sweden in January 1962 as SE-DBI, then in May 1965 to Braathens SAFE as LN-SUM before to Brothers Air Services of Yemen as VR-ABL in April 1969. Re-registered 7O-ABL in August of that year. Brothers Air Services was nationalized into Alyemda in 1971. The aircraft's final fate is obscure. Photographer unknown

Delivered in 1952 to Pan-American World Airways as N6532C. WFU & B/U at SDQ. Seen here in bare metal colours the fuselage was later repainted in white/grey. Pan-Am leased this aircraft to Eastern Airlines in 1955 & to Capital Airlines in 1960. Was sold to Dominicana in 1964 as passenger plane & converted to freighter in 1975.
