An impressive array of strain gauges decorates this venerable tanker aircraft. Fortunately its static test duties were only temporary, and this aircraft later returned to operational use unitil permanently withdrawn on 25 September 2013. On that day, this aircraft performed the last flight of a VC-10 worldwide.
The aircraft carries markings on the nose, presented by the Indian Air Force to the RAF Museum. I was lucky in that other aircraft had been moved around on the day of my visit allowing an unobscured view. It has since been moved to Hendon.
French-built version of the Junkers Ju-52/3m. Operated by STA August 1946 until late 1948 when transferred to the French A.F. Operating a Paris to Prestwick charter and called at Ringway for customs and fuel. It retains the already obsolete 'F' for France on its rudder.
