Giles Guthrie taxies Edgar Percival's Mew Gull, G-AFAA, on the Friday before the race took place. Officially entered by the Viscountess Wakefield, it was flown by Percival to take 6th place the following day. Badly damaged in a heavy landing at Hatfield during WW2 the damaged airframe was destroyed in a fire-fighting demonstration at Luton Airport in July 1945. Press photo.

Another aircraft type designed for the 1934 Challenge International de Tourisme, the four-seat Kl 36 was the fastest ever Klemm aircraft, but none of the four participating Kl 36As completed the Challenge's 9537.4 km rally through Europe. They were powered by either an Argus As 17, as seen here, or a Hirth HM 8 engine. For some reason, three of them had this braced landing gear which looks like a hasty improvisation. World's only original airworthy Peashooter at Planes of Fame Air Museum. The P-26 was USAAC's first all-metal monoplane fighter aircraft. The Model 248 first flew on 20 Mar 1932 and was a blend of old and new. Compared to biplanes, the new fighter had higher takeoff and landing speeds, which did much to bring paved runways. This P-26A was flown by USAAC in the Panama Canal Zone. It was acquired in 1957 from Fuerza Aérea Guatemalteca. It wears the colors of 95th PS "Kicking Mule", 17th PG at March Field.

Scanned from a print with no info recorded, so Christchurch location is surmised. First flown on 28 August 1950 and loaned from the Ministry of Supply for the London-New Zealand Air Race. Used for various trials, then stored in 1958, the fuselage was cut and finally used for BAC 111 engine installation tests in 1961 before final scrapping. (Photographer Unknown)
