The DH.14 was designed as a replacement for the DH.4 and DH.9 bombers, but that was no longer required after the end of WWI and the first of three examples to fly was the DH.14A long-range aircraft, powered by a 450-hp Napier Lion engine. Plans to fly across the Atlantic or from England to Australia were overtaken by successful Vickers Vimy flights. A flight to Cape Town ended in an emergency landing on a beach near Messina and the aircraft finally served in the RAF as J1940, used for comparative trials alongside the two other DH.14s which had Rolls-Royce Condor engines.

Built by the Moth Aircraft Corporation, USA in 1929 as NC926M, this aircraft crashed in 1930. It was restored in 1987 to flying condition. Private flying in the UK really began in 1925 with the D.H.60 Moth. It was Sir Sefton Brancker, Dir. Gen. of Civil Aviation who wanted the man in the street to fly, after which flying clubs were formed with grants by the Ministry. The Gipsy Moth and Tiger Moth were to provide a pool of trained civilian pilots when war broke out in 1939.

"Triple First" on display in the Grahame-White Factory at RAFM Hendon. The aircraft was so named after the first Atlantic, Australia and South Africa flights by Vimys. This replica was built by the Vintage Aircraft and Flying Association (VAFA) with original Rolls-Royce Eagle Mk.IX engines and flown a few times in 1969. Following a fire in July 1969, it was restored in 1972 and moved to Hendon in 1983. It is painted as a strategic bomber built at Weybridge in 1918, though too late to see action in WW1.
