Fokker's D.21 (or D.XXI) fighter. This Fokker-built replica is pretty good although it has thick 'Finnish' undercarriage leg fairings. Unfortunately this nice exhibit is very poorly displayed in the new Military Museum at EHSB.

The Netherlands air force operated three squadrons of F-86K single-seat night fighters between 1955 and 1964. I suppose it was the K in the designation that led to the nickname Kaasjager (literally, cheese fighter) after police constable Hendrik Kaasjager who proposed to fill up some of Amsterdam's famous canals to ease automobile traffic.

The D.21 or D.XXI was the closest thing to the Spitfire for three minor nations - Finland, Denmark, and Holland - in 1940, when Dutch military aircraft wore orange nationality markings. The first helicopters flown on behalf of the Dutch army by the air force were 35 OH-23B Ravens. A single 'fishbowl' OH-23C, 57-6521, arrived in May 1959 and here it seems to hover through the Museum of Military Aviation. Unfortunately the MLM was replaced by a National Military Museum where army vehicles occupy most of the floor space.

The service period of the C-47 with the Koninklijke Luchtmacht or Royal (Netherlands) Air Force was relatively short, the indigenous Fokker F.27 starting to replace it in 1960. A couple of C-47s served in Dutch New Guinea until late 1962. This is actually a Danish machine, ex K-688.
