To celebrate 65 years of their operations in Scotland KLM sent across the stunning 'Prinses Amalia' for a promotional tour. Engineers are just checking over the port engine before some lucky prize winners board for a spectacular low-level scenic flight across to Edinburgh (sooo jealous! - well done Peter!).

It's not every day that you see a DC-2 (right), DC-3 (centre) and DC-4 (left) together, from a DC-6 cockpit!

US Navy 9993 delivered 7 September 1935, struck off charge 28 August 1944, to NC39165 registered by January 1946, to N39165 reregistered 1949. It is here representing KLM's famous PH-AJU "Uiver" from the 1934 Mildenhall-Melbourne race, with race number 44. Its real US registration is visible under the tailplane.

After a considerable time in the holding pattern DC-2 'Uiver' entered the arena during the last Coventry Classic Air Show. The original crashed in adverse weather in Iraq on its second journey to Batavia, in December 1934. NC39165 redid the London-Melbourne-London journey during 1983-1984. In 1999, the Aviodrome museum acquired NC39165 from its owner in the U.S. and brought her to Europe once again. After several years of flying she was put on display indoors at Lelystad airport, although still airworthy.

Painted as the famous 'Uiver' the unique flying DC-2 is seen in a modest turn during a rather spectacular flying display over Coventry airport.

N39165 was flown to Australia to mark the 50th anniversary of the original PH-AJU "Uiver" winning the handicap section of the MacRobertson Miller London-to-Melbourne air race. Air Race 44, Uiver did so while operating the regular KLM service to Batavia (now Jakarta) and despite a dramatic night landing on the racecourse at Albury aided by car headlights. N39165 is now part of the Aviodrome collection Lelystad Airport.

The sound of four roaring Twin Wasps could often be heard at Amsterdam during the mid and late 1990s, when DDA's Skymaster ZS-NUR (later PH-DDS) in 1950s KLM colours took to the air again. Unfortunately they were forced to dispose of this magnificent aircraft, due to very rigid regulations imposed by the Dutch aviation authorities. It departed for South Africa in late 2002 (as ZS-AUA). By 2017 it was still there, but hadn't flown since 2008/2009.
