VT268 was later converted to a drone and shot down in 1961. RAF Fayid was abandoned by the RAF in 1956 and became an Egyptian air force base. In the 1980s the EAF moved a short distance to Fayed air force base built by the USAF. The RAF station is slowly being reclaimed by the sand. Photo from: Air Force Museum of New Zealand

Comparable to the Martin P5M Marlin, the Noroît (northwest wind) is another little-known French aircraft type that did see operational service. This is the first of two N.1400 prototypes, first flown on 6 January 1949. Photo assumed to have been taken early on. Some 23 N.1402 production aircraft were delivered to the Aéronavale from 1952, but suffered from unreliable Arsenal 12H engines of German origin. Apparently the type was withdrawn after a fatal crash at Bizerte, Tunisia on 2 November 1954. Photo from: Nationaal Archief (Netherlands)

Executive aircraft for the Continental Can Company, with their CCC logo on the nose. It served them from 1948 until 1959, when it was sold to PEMEX as XC-CAY, again as an executive aircraft. Acquired by the Confederate Air Force in 1967 and became N12905 the following year, flying as "Diamond Lil". Reregistered to N24927 in 1990, this Liberator was still flying with them by 2019.

After initial use in Melbourne from 1949, VH-CAM was allocated to DCA's Papua New Guinea Region where it was based at Port Moresby. It flew on DCA duties for only two years until it crashed during a forced landing off Port Moresby harbour on 5 December 1951. Note the RAAF survey Mosquito in the background.

Unsuccessful attempt to develop a naval fighter. This photo from Sud-Ouest is often claimed to be the first prototype but has the serial 02 on the fin. Confusion stems from the radio mast, which is above the fuselage when registered F-WFKV but below in this photo.. The SO-8000 had a protracted development with many problems and modifications. Moving the radio would have been a minor change. 02 flew first in April 1949, 01 in December. The project was cancelled soon after. Photo from: Civil Aviation Historical Society, Melbourne, Australia
