After initial use in Melbourne from 1949, VH-CAM was allocated to DCA's Papua New Guinea Region where it was based at Port Moresby. It flew on DCA duties for only two years until it crashed during a forced landing off Port Moresby harbour on 5 December 1951. Note the RAAF survey Mosquito in the background.

Unsuccessful attempt to develop a naval fighter. This photo from Sud-Ouest is often claimed to be the first prototype but has the serial 02 on the fin. Confusion stems from the radio mast, which is above the fuselage when registered F-WFKV but below in this photo.. The SO-8000 had a protracted development with many problems and modifications. Moving the radio would have been a minor change. 02 flew first in April 1949, 01 in December. The project was cancelled soon after. Photo from: Civil Aviation Historical Society, Melbourne, Australia
