Powered by a powerful Bristol Centaurus radial, the Tempest II came too late to see action in WWII. Further development led to the Sea Fury. PR536 served with the RAF in India and was transferred to the Royal Indian Air Force as HA457. This is a composite airframe with the forward fuselage of PR536.

This light bomber was used at the end of WWI but with poor results due to it being underpowered and by 1920 they had been withdrawn from RAF service. Many were then gifted to Commonwealth countries. The nose carries the legend 'Presented by His Highness the Nizam of Hyderabad. Hyderabad No12a.' During WWI a whole Squadron, No 152, had been gifted to the RAF by the Nizam.

'K2227' was reduced to a heap of rubble in a crash at Farnborough in 1964, but has been marvelously restored. It was originally a factory demonstrator, G-ABBB. The civil registration was cancelled in 1961, but the Shuttleworth Collection had a permit to fly vintage aircraft unregistered.

The Fokker D.VII was the outstanding fighter aircraft of WWI, unique in tat it had a metal tube fuselage rather than the all wood prevelant at the time. This example is probably ex OO-AMY, later OO-UPP abandoned at Ostend in 1918. It was brought to the UK in 1938 as part of the Nash Collection. Purchased by the Ministry of Defence in 1992 and allocated RAF maintenance serial 8207M, it was donated to the Museum in 2004. A magnificent exhibit, one of six remaining aircraft of the type

The Beaufighter was one of the most significant British aircraft of the middle years of the Second World War. It was a very effective ground-attack aircraft and night fighter. After the War it was used by Coastal Command for shipping protection. This aircraft previously served with the Portuguese Navy as BF-13.

Moved from the RAF Museum, Cosford Collection where I had first seen this beauty, to the Bomber Command Hall at Hendon. The SNAKE suffix to the serial indicated that the aircraft was on delivery to the RAF in South East Asia and was not to be kept in the Middle East. The nose carries a plaque to commemorate the fact that the aircraft was presented by the Indian Air Force.

A magnificent exhibit, stunning. This aircraft was captured by the RAF in Leck in Germany towards the end of WWII. it was evaluated by the RAF and assigned the British serial VN679 in November 1945. Due to the shortage of metal towards the end of the war, the aircraft was built largely of wood.
