One of the Meteor prototypes which first flew on July 24th, 1943. It is preserved in the RAF Museum Cosford Collection

The Meteor sits next to its German counterpart, the Me 262, which first flew eight monts earlier and was rather more advanced aerodynamically. This was the first prototype Meteor, but only the third to fly on 24 July 1943.
