The RAAF's last four Beaufighters gathered at what is believed to be RAAF Richmond where 30 (Target Towing) Sqn was based. In early 1956 the aircraft were ferried to Tocumwal. Three were scrapped there but the second aircraft in this line-up, A8-328, was donated to the Lord Mayor's camp for children at Portsea, Victoria from where it was rescued in 1962 and preserved.
Formerly VH-UZJ "Kyilla" with ANA. Rushed into RAAF service at the outbreak of World War II. With the impending arrival of second-hand DC-2s from the US, it was returned to ANA in June 1940. A month after being delivered to the RAAF it landed with the brakes on resulting in accident shown in the photo. VH-UZJ remained in ANA service until December 19, 1948, when it undershot Mangalore aerodrome. Photo from: National Library of Australia
