A89-281 in the markings it wore on delivery in 1962. At the time of the photo the RAAF was in the process of following the USN in adopting the gull grey in place of dark blue on the P-2 undersides.. After being disposed off, A89-281 had the registration VH-NEP reserved in 1992 but it was never taken up. Plans to convert it an air tanker also fell through. At the time of upload, A89-281 was preserved with HARS at Shellharbour, NSW

Former Byrd expedition aircraft. Bought to Australia by Eddie Connellan, of Connellan Airways in 1942. Intercepted by the RAAF on the wharf at Darwin and impressed. The original Wright engine was replaced by a Jacobs. Connellan reacquired the wreck and its original Wright engine. After a lengthy rebuild, flew again in 1956 as D17S VH-AFP. Crashed in 1963. At the time of upload, it was US registered (N20778), Australian owned and being restored in New Zealand.
