Photo taken from the control tower that stood in the middle of Sydney airport from 1954 to 1972. The building remained in use for many years after the controllers moved out. It was demolished amid expansion of the taxiway network to serve runway 16L/34R, which opened in 1994.

Ansett's 767s were unique in they retained the three-crew cockpit (two pilots and a flight engineer) of the original design. Other buyers took advantage of Boeing's new glass cockpit to have two pilots only. VH-RME was finally converted to two-crew in 1998. In April 2001 it became one of the Ansett aircraft grounded by authorities for non-compliance, the first real sign the airline was in trouble. It re-entered service a month later but was under heavy maintenance when Ansett ceased operations in September. The work was never finished and -RME was scrapped at Melbourne in 2003.

Under the strict Australian two-airline policy in force at the time, VH-RME and TAA's VH-TJA arrived in Australia on the same day (October 16, 1964) and entered service on the same day (November 2) on the same route - Melbourne (Essendon) to Sydney. -RME was withdrawn from use and sold in Mexico as XA-MEG in 1978.
