Built in 1961, this airframe has quite a history. It first went to the US Army as 60-5436, then in 1967 to the USAF. As from September 1982, the Fuerza Aérea Española operated it for six years as T.9-26, before it became N666NC with New Cal Aviation and later Pen Turbo Aviation. It joined the Trigana Air fleet in April 2004 which only operated it for about 4 years.

This is former C-7A 61-2388 that was used by the CIA in Iran for flights along and across the Soviet Union border under project Ibex. For quite a while, this aircraft was in the museum in its original colour scheme and carrying Iranian Air Force markings and serial 553. Unfortunately, by early 2008 it had been repainted in this terrible colourscheme, temporarily with registration "EP-RAJ", but now without any registration. The aircraft carries texts referring to the Hekmat Saba Insurance company, presumably because that company sponsored the recent paint job.

Pictured here while still equipped with radial engines, this Caribou was later modified with PT-6 turboprops. On 27 August 1992 it crashed and burned at Gimli when the elevator gust lock reengaged itself on take-off. Ironically the flight was just meant to be for fun and to consume as much fuel as possible before the aircraft was weighed.

BDE intended to turn surplus Caribous into water bombers. In 2000 the Avinsa company bought the three white BDE aircraft at Cuatro Vientos with the unlikely plan of hauling cargo with these old beasts between Spain, the Canary Islands and Morocco. EC-GQM is ex T.9-11. Note the registration on the nosewheel door.

In the early 1970s four Caribous were used by the US Army at the Kwajalein Missile range on the Marshall islands in the Pacific. These had been taken over from a private company in 1970 and were assigned serials based upon the c/n. This one, c/n 256, became 66-256, despite the fact the 66-0256 had already been assigned to a F-4D Phantom. Later, US Army C-7As were used for this job, followed by C-23Cs, Dash-7s and Be1900s. The fate of this DHC-4A remains unknown.
