Apparently these buildings stood at the north end of SFO. We could find no information on this whatsoever but the hangar on the left is also seen in Bill Larkins' photo 45892. The slogan read 'Chicago, New York, Washington, Boston and all of the East'. The aircraft is the fifth DC-6 airframe, operated by United from 1946 until 1968! Photo from: San Bruno Public Library

Delivered in February 1955. According to the regulations, the tail number should have been 50298 from 1954. In Jim Tunney's 1973 colour photo of this airframe, this has changed to 0-50298 according to the clumsy 'older than ten years' rule, which had already been dropped by then. It is unclear why this beautiful Vega had an NX registration. It was delivered to a Lockheed dealer in Detroit, the Schlee-Brock Aircraft Corporation. Edward Schlee and Bill Brock had flown a Stinson SM-1 Detroiter eastbound from Dearborn to Tokyo in 1927. On 23 July 1929, Schlee was seriously injured by the Vega's propeller when about to take off for a business trip. The registration was cancelled in April 1930 for reasons unknown. Six-passenger airline first flown from Cricklewood on 19 October 1926. It had Handley Page leading edge slots which are closed here. Displayed at an air pageant at Croydon already on 23 October. The three Lucifer engines gave bad vibrations. The sole Hamlet was then unsuccessfuly tested with two Lynx engines, and flown only once with three Mongoose engines. Scrapped in 1929.
