Welcoming the Douglas World Cruisers to Boston. DH-4M-2 aircraft were remanufactured with steel tube fuselage frames by Atlantic Fokker. The autogenous welding technique of Fokker - or rather, his master welder, Reinhold Platz - was still advanced in the early 1920s, and the DH-4 work put the American Fokker factory into business. The badge worn seems to be a winged 1- see photo 649971. Photo by: Leslie Jones / Boston Public Library

One of Dayton Wright's projects to extend the life of DH-4 production after Armistice. The aircraft was stretched by a foot to make a cabin for two behind the pilot. One can only speculate why it was called the Honeymoon. How many were built is unknown but there may have been only one. A Honeymoon won the Aviation Country Club Trophy Race at Detroit in 1922. Became G-CYEC , an Air Board registration. The Air Board was an ostensibly civil organisation that fulfilled the role of an air force. The arrival of combat aircraft in the mid 1920s led to a dedicated Canadian air force and the eventual takeover of many Air Board aircraft. G-CYEC was struck off charge in 1928 before this happened. Originally with Qantas as G-AUBZ. Sold to Matthews Aviation in December 1927. Was still marked G-AUBZ at the start of 1930 despite a CAB directive to change it to VH-UBZ. That happened in March. At the time the aircraft had open cockpits (five) and was named "The Lachlan". Sold to Pioneer Aviation Services in 1931. At some stage the rear cockpits were replaced by an enclosed cabin. At least five (excited!) passengers are visible in this photo. -UBZ was finally struck off the register in 1940.

G-AUCM was one of the first Australian civil aircraft and was registered in 1921 after service with the Royal Air Force as F2691. It is not known who owned it when it was photographed at Albury but by the end of 1927 it was in Papua New Guinea. G-AUCM was withdrawn from use in 1930 without adopting the VH- prefix (it would have been VH-UCM). Alexandra Park still exists in Albury and is about a kilometre from today's Albury Airport. The photo was found at a garage sale in Albury and the photographer is not known. The details were pencilled on the back.
