The Vega 35 was commenced as the North American NA-35. It lost out to the Ryan STA for a USAAC order. The design and four unfinished aircraft were sold to Lockheed subsidiary Vega. Vega finished the aircraft and from this photo it was offered to the RCAF. Wartime demands on Vega's production capacity saw the aircraft again dropped. The four Vega built aircraft were sold to civil buyers. NX28351 (probably as NC28351) was cancelled from the register in 1948. The Navion, another North American project, used the same wing. Operated by Patricia Airways and Exploration with the photo probably taken at Hudson, a short distance west of the Sioux Lookout base. Hudson was a popular transit point for prospectors and supplies during the Red Lake gold rush. As in the photo, the railroad passed, and still does, close to the steep shore of Lost Lake. During the gold rush there were buildings crammed between the tracks and the water. G-CAFB crashed in September 1927. Photo from: Library and Archive Canada

The last Argus built by Canadair is pictured out back of the National Aeronautical Collection hangar (now Canada Aviation and Space Museum). The last operational Argus flight was flown November 10, 1980 and the type retired. This aircraft made the last flight of any Argus on February 10, 1982 when it was delivered to the Museum for display. Stored outside until moved into the museum's new hangar in 2005, it has undergone some restoration to repair the damage done by weather. The aircraft is back outside, partially cocooned at the time of uploading.

Imperial Oil's Air Transport division took delivery of this Beaver on April 6, 1950. First registered CF-IOB, it was re-registered CF-HEP in 1953 and sold to Pacific Western Airlines in December 1956. Flying with smaller operators from 1960, it moved to Sioux Lookout in 1986, first with Slate Falls Airways. The aircraft was registered to Bamaji Air in June 2003. Used seasonally, the registration lapsed in 2006 and the aircraft is pictured out of service. Put back on the register with a new engine and propeller in September 2021, it's current with Bamaji Air again at the time of uploading.

Struck off charge in April 1942. The RCAF operated 15 Canadian built Grumman G-23s, bought to keep the CCF production line ticking over until Hurricane production began. The one and only Canadair C-5, like most Canadian built DC-4, was pressurised but uniquely powered by Pratt and Whitney R-2800 radials engines as used on the DC-6. The RR Merlin engines of all other Canadair-built DC-4s resulted in very high cabin noise and the C-5 was always intended as a VIP aircraft. It remained in service until 1966 and was then sold in the US as N17599. Scrapped soon after. Photo from: Library and Archives Canada

Snowbird Tutor is pictured in the first version of their colorful scheme introduced in 1974. In 1977, it would change slightly when antenna would be added to be able to utilize civilian nav-aids. The flag would move lower on the fin to accommodate TACAN / VOR antennas and the serial would move to the fuselage. The clear nose lens would also become pointed to fit a glide slope antenna. A spare aircraft for 1976, 114003 carries the first commemorative tail marking by the team for the 1976 Montreal Summer Olympics. It went on display at the Canadian Museum of Flight in Langley, BC circa 2006.
