The blue letter and fuselage band identifies this as a Sabre from 1 Sqn SAAF.

Damaged at White Sands, New Mexico, on May 17, 1978

A former Luftwaffe F-86 (delivered as BB+170 in the early seventies, and later on also carried D-9538) was sold on the civil market in 1977. It arrived at Duxford (UK) but was eventually sold to Flight Systems, Inc, Mojave (CA) in April 1979. It received registration N1039C, but that changed into N82FS in October 1981. The aircraft served the company for several years and was sold to N.V.L. CORP, Washington DC (MD) on 10 April 1998 and received registration N186JC. The Sabre was fully destroyed in a high speed impact on 19 June 1999, killing its pilot.

This was the final Sabre built by Canadair at Montreal before it ceased production. During its service with the Pakistan Air Force it achieved 6 kills during conflicts with India. Donated to the museum in 1996 and delivered inside a CAF Lockheed C-130. It was previously displayed with PAF markings. The museum was renamed the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada 19 December 2014 and closed its doors 22 October 2018. The historic TCA hangar and original terminal building were sadly demolished to make way for a new maintenance facility. The construction of a new museum building commenced 1 May 2020.

The museum reopened at a new location in Parque Jaime Duque, Tocancipá in 2017.

This was the last active Canadair Sabre in Canada and it served as a target tug for the Canadian Air Force. Now, it is in the hands of a collector in the US, painted as a USAF Sabre

This Sabre was used for target towing duties over the North Sea for the US air force. Later it moved to Soesterberg where it operated in 1991 and 1992.
