Ex-US Army L-4H Grasshopper 44-80039

This aircraft served with the RAF as KN597, later with the West German Air Force, and civilianised in 1968 as N10801. Intended for the Biafran Air Force it remained stored at Faro, Portugal, until flown to the USA in 1978 and noted active with large Air Cargo American titles at Miami and San Juan, PR., in 1980. After storage at Homestead it was acquired by the El Salvador Air Force, (FA Salvadorena), and converted to turboprop power, becoming Basler BT-67 c/n 4 serial 118. It was withdrawn from use at San Salvador Ilopango Airport in 2010, and last reported derelict there in February 2019.

Passed to Sriwijaya Air as PK-CMD in September 2013 and to Nam Air as PK-NAQ in May 2015 and is currently (March 2024) still active with that airline.

Came on to the British register as G-BNUM on 02-09-1987 but de-registered on 11-03-1988 when it was transferred to the German marks D-EONH.

Delivered to the USAF in October 1952 as serial 51-3830 it served until consigned to MASDC at Tucson in December 1974. It was sold in May 1976 and registered N44916, but appears to have never been converted for legitimate use and was impounded with a cargo of Marijuana at Valledupar, Colombia in 1990. In November 2001 it was moved to the Parque de los Helados, (Ice Cream Park), in Valledupar where it became an education centre. Remarkably it can still be seen there on Google Earth at what is now called the Parque De La Provincia. Thanks to Ruud Leeuw's excellent web site for much of the above.

Delivered to Northwest Orient as N571 in Nov. 1956, their fleet number 571 can just be discerned on the nose-wheel door. It was sold to Zantop in Aug. 1961, passed on to Universal Airlines in Sept. 1966 and then to Span East Airlines as N612SE in Jan.1970. After Span East closed in 1976 it was acquired by Conner Airlines and re-registered N612CA. Florida Aircraft Leasing became owners in Nov. 1984 and North American Register and Transport, who re-registered it N29630, in Jan. 1988. It was last reported derelict at Puerto Plata Airport, Dominican Republic in April 1998 still wearing N612CA!

Originally WB699 with the RAF, it was civilianised as G-AOJV to the Airways Aero Association in April 1956, but cancelled in August that year as sold to West Germany as D-EJAN, moving on to Spain as EC-BOI in May 1968.

After USAAF service as 45-627 this aircraft was leased to Pan American as N88945 "Clipper Gladiator" in April 1947 serving until February 1954 when it was returned to the USAF. Retired from service in February 1973 it was stored at MASDC Tucson until civilianised as N88945 in early 1981, becoming N811E with Globe Air the following year. When Globe Air closed in 1985 it was stored until acquired by Brooks Air Fuel in June 1991 and converted as a fuel tanker, sadly it was written off on 8th October 1993 when it veered off the runway landing at Point Lay, AK., with a cargo of unleaded auto fuel.

One of a batch of 355 L-21Bs supplied to European nations under the Mutual Defense Assistance Program (MDAP) in the early 1950s, this aircraft went to the Italian Army as MM 54-2626, and has been restored in the colours it wore at that time. According to the late Joe Baugher's indispensable US Military Serials web site, the aircraft was assigned to the Alpine Squadron and used to patrol the border between Italy and Yugoslavia. It was accompanied at Oshkosh by sister-ship N33MT MM 54-2526 (q.v.) in matching colours, and they had been flown up together from Texas by the owner and his wife.

Photographed lining up on Runway 28R, (as it then was), at London Heathrow in August 1981. It made its last ever Heathrow visit the following month and was sold to TAL Trans Air Link as N867TA, passing in 1986 to the iconic DC-6 operator Northern Air Cargo Inc. of Anchorage, AK. Sadly it was written off in a landing accident at Deadhorse-Alpine Airstrip, AK., in September 2001.

Perfect registration for an NZ helicopter! Ex VH-AUN and sold to Canada as C-FKMR in 2014.

In use by Taupo Tandem Skydiving. After severe airframe corrosion was discovered during a subsequent overhaul it was parted out at Ardmore Airport and the registration cancelled on 29-01-2008. The bare hulk of the fuselage was last noted in August 2016 at Gardens Early Childhood Centre, Takanini. This registration is now carried by a Gippsland Airvan.

The aircraft was retired to MASDC at Davis Monthan AFB, Tucson in 1961. In 1972 it was acquired by the Aero American Corp., registered N87665 and re-located to Ryan Field where it remained unconverted until broken up for parts c.1982; the registration was cancelled in May 1984.
