This P-51 was accepted by the USAAF in Feb'45, one month later it departed the USA via Newark (NJ), for assignment to 8th AF. Returned to the US, via Newark in Oct'45. By 1954, it was transferred to 109th FS of the Minnesota ANG and flew from World-Chamberlain Field (later Minneapolis-St.Paul MAP, MN). By Aug'56, it was reported as written off following an incident at Holman Field, St. Paul (MN). It was stricken in that month, stored and in 1979 it appeared in the inventory of National Museum of the United States Air Force Loan Program, Wright Field, Dayton (OH). This P-51D is pictured rolling out on rw27 after taking part in a Red Bull display at Aviatická pouť 2025. The plane was previously F-AZSB.

The A-36A dive bomber was the first US Army Air Forces version of North American's famous Mustang, the latter originally developed for the RAF in 1940. It was used in the Mediterranean and Italian campaigns in 1943 but by 1944 it had been found that the high-altitude P-47 and P-51 fighters were more suitable for low-level missions when fitted with bomb racks than the A-36As. The museum's example was raced by the Essex Wire Corp as NX39502 '44' between 1946 and 1949, eventually being donated in 1971. It is painted as an A-36A flown by the 522nd FBS in combat over North Africa and Italy

After its USAF career when it flew as 44-72400 this P-51D became involved in air races with different owners since 1946! In 1952 it made an attempt on the piston airspeed record with race number 45. In 1972, it was acquired by the Bradley Air Museum in derelict condition and subsequently restored for display. It still looks very shiny here in 2016, displaying its old race number 45.

Actually a P-51D built by North American at Inglewood for the USAAF as 44-73979, taken on strength by the RCAF as 9246 in December 1950. Grounded after an accident in May 1951. In the early 1970s it was restored as "Big Beautiful Doll" at Duxford and went on display suspended at the IWM in London. Returned to Duxford and repainted in 2014 as a P-51K of the 82nd FS, 78th FG for the American Air Museum
