Sole example of the P-49 intended to provide higher performance than the Lockheed P-38 Lightning. After indecision on a new engine, the experimental Continental XIV-1430 V-12 engine was selected. This engine never went into production while flight testing revealed the XP-49 was slower than the P-38J. The project was cancelled and the prototype scrapped. At an unknown location in Korea. Interestingly the C-47 appears to be a Greek aircraft. The 13th Flight of the Greek air force operated C-47s in the Korean War, based at Kimpo. Another photo by David Ketel, also showing T-6 Texans, was taken at an airfield near 'Suchon', probably Suwon. Photo by: David Ketel / Rijksmuseum Amsterdam

The large American flags painted on, and the number plate of the car suggest that the photo was taken during WWII in Lima. The car plate says '42' too, presumably indicating the year of issue. NC13729 to XA-BJL (2) in 1945, broken up in 1947. Photo from: Smithsonian Institution

Aircraft took part in London to Paris race. Photo probably taken at the Thames in Barking from where it flew to the Seine in Paris. Ex G-APNY which was operated by Onassis Shipping Line and flew to Croydon from the yacht of Aristotle Onassis in 1958. Registered HB-LAV just before the race. To SX-BDB in 1960 which was nominally in the fleet of Onassis' Olympic Aviation, but it and SX-BDC (c/n 246) were used privately by Onassis. The crash of SX-BDC on 22 January 1973 killed Onassis' son Alexander. Photo from: Nationaal Archief (Netherlands)
