Built in 1945 as FM-2 Bureau Number 86746. The FM-2 was the last version of the Wildcat and had a more powerful engine, the 1350 HP Wright R-1820-56 Cyclone. This required more vertical fin area resulting in the taller tail. The FM-2 was primarily assigned to the CVE carriers operated by the US Navy during WW 2.

This slide was taken when Chanute AFB was still active. The a/c was being used as a ground instructional airframe. After the base closed this C-123 was on display there as part of the Octave Chanute Air Museum at least until 2002. After that there is no record of its location. It was no longer at the museum when it closed in 2015.
