A very pretty Pander E, thought to be new here in the summer of 1930. It was purchased by Mr In 't Veen who applied the name Vlinder (butterfly) at least on the right hand side. The Dutch flag in a circle shape on the rudder is uncommon. The aircraft was sold to the Nationale Luchtvaart School (NLS) in 1932 and destroyed by German bombs here at Waalhaven in May 1940. The Do 28D Skyservant prototype, first flown on 23 February 1966. The Do 28D was in fact a new design, not a cubist variant of the Do 28 of which a few examples are seen on the ground at the factory. D-INTL to D-IBUN and N7154 of Butler Aviation. Crashed on 6 December 1968 near Sønderborg, Denmark. Photo from: Nationaal Archief (Netherlands)

Instead of the big Fokker F.XXXVI (F.36), KLM selected the Douglas DC-2. On the right is not the sole F.XXVI but a smaller F.XXII, PH-AJP Papegaai. The DC-2 Gaai was KLM's second example, after PH-AJU Uiver. It arrived in the port of Rotterdam in April 1935. Delivered through Fokker with 'line number' 13, it was already lost on 20 July in a crash in Switzerland which killed everyone on board. Photo from: Nationaal Archief (Netherlands)

Forerunner of the Do 27. Two protypes were built in Spain by CASA in Seville in 1954 and flown to Getafe for testing. This is the second, which had its Elizalde Tigre engine replaced with a Continental O-470, as seen here, in 1955. The aircraft was taken to Germany where production of the Do 27 was set up. Information from Johan Visschedijk who says that the Do 27 P2 returned to Spain in 1956 with an unknown fate, but aire.org indicates that it became D-EBHC in 1961. A nice photo showing blind flying hood in operation. Ex NM123, taken on charge by the RAF in January 1944, but possibly surplus and not used. To RLS in 1946. Following four early crashes involving RLS Tigers, the Dutch CAA demanded fitment of the so-called 'bed board' tailfin. This seems to have taken place circa 1948. PH-UAI to other owners from 1960, to N8223 in 1970. Reg stricken as destroyed by fire at Plum Island Airport, Massachusetts on 17 October 1977. Photo from: Nationaal Archief (Netherlands).

Ex PG629, not PG627 according to seasoned researcher Herman Dekker. Tiger "R5148" at Prague - Kbely is said to be ex PH-UAM, but Dekker notes that this is most uncertain as fuselages, wings and documents of a batch of aircraft sold to America were combined randomly. The Reading Sky Observers, described as forerunner of Air-Britain, installed this Ju fuselage as a clubhouse at Woodley in 1947. It arrived there for scrap by Miles. Built by Amiot in March 1944, c/n 641038 was delivered to Lufthansa as D-AUAV Julius Nimis. On 23 April 1945 it escaped from Berlin - Tempelhof with passengers. On 3 May it made one of the last DLH flights, from Flensburg to Copenhagen and Malmö and back. Captured by British. Allocated serial AM104 but a reader writes that his father rode in 'D-AUAV' on a transport flight from Farnborough to RAF Perton and back on 9 August 1945. Its last flight was on 23 August to Farnborough for an exhibition of German aircraft. Photo from: Nationaal Archief (Netherlands)

This aircraft, ex BuNo 46521, was the first of a batch of six taken bought by the Netherlands navy. It arrived at Schiphol on 19 January 1951, but crashed four days later when landing at the Aviolanda works in Papendrecht for modifications, and was a write-off. The intended Dutch serial 16-211 (P-211) was transferred to ex BuNo 46581 (c/n 1945). Photo from: Nationaal Archief (Netherlands)

The CW-20 prototype, originally flown with twin fins as the CW-20T - it appears in photo 367081 although the tail is not visible. Tail redesigned and airframe rebuilt as the CW-20A. USAAF took delivery of it as a C-55 (not C-46) but soon returned it to Curtiss-Wright so it could be sold to BOAC. Operated between Gibraltar and Malta. Scrapped in October 1943.
