NZ4112 was sold to Australian Aircraft Sales in 1966. AAS removed the Pratt and Whitney R-1830 engines and the hulk was abandoned. NZ4112 became a clubhouse for the Hobsonville Yacht Club until 1973 when the club was ordered to remove it. The cockpit and nose turret section was roughly removed and the rest scrapped. Building runways is challenging in Norway and DNL acquired five Sandringham flying boats after WWII. LN-IAU is seen operating alongside two diehard seaplane Ju 52s which can just be identified as LN-KAE behind LN-KAF. As far as we can work out, LN-KAF could be either the first (c/n 5489), or the second (c/n 130714) which became the nostalgy bird "D-AQUI" - see photo 70519 for details. When competitors' started a same-plane DC-4 service from Sydney via Launceston it cut the flying boat's time advantage to a mere 20 minutes (in a four-hour flight) while greatly reducing costs.
