In and out of storage at various times after taken on strength January 6, 1971, this Freedom Fighter was withdrawn when the type was retired in 1997 and placed in the Cold Lake Air Force Museum by 2002. The Museum is part of the Cold Lake Museums complex that also include the Heritage, Oil & Gas and Indigenous museums. Built as 42-23648 and flew with KLM (PH-TBG) after World War II, this C-47 was converted to an executive transport in 1951 by Atlantic Aviation. Utilized by several companies, first as N9997F and later N104E, the aircraft would be registered to Air O'Hare in 1973 as N9BC. On January 1, 1975, it was en route from the Bahamas to Fort Lauderdale on a charter flight when the number one propeller oversped. The engine was shut down, but the remaining engine eventually overheated and lost power. Forced to ditch near Fort Lauderdale, the three people on board were rescued.
