Photographed shortly after an early morning arrival at AMS, this aircraft was then in the twilight of its long life. This early-build 747-100 was first delivered to United Airlines in 1970 as N4703U, and it later flew with Pan Am as a passenger aircraft. It served as a cargo hauler for Polar Air Cargo as N853FT before joining the Kalitta fleet in 2004. It was stored in 2008 and later broken up.

Delivered to JAL in 1971 as JA8107. Converted to freighter for them in 1977, and sold to Kalitta 15 years later, in 1992. Withdrawn from use by 2010. In 2017 the registration N702CK was re-used on a Kalitta 747-400F.

This photo was taken from the Spectators Terrace .There was only 30 seconds of sun during the entire afternoon and fortunately I caught it on the kalitta 747,the aircraft looks like it is in a spotlight as the foreground and background are in shadow.

Just six weeks earlier, this old cargo Jumbo literally lost its No 1 engine over Lake Michigan, which reminds of the 1992 crash of El Al's 4X-AXG into an apartment block in Amsterdam.

Luckily she was going out empty so rotated early right in front of me (either that or she was only going to FLL!!! ).

Later painted in full Kalitta colours, but seen here still in the colours of its previous operator Volcanair. Withdrawn from use in 2001 and scrapped a few years later.

The former LN-MOH was built in 1966 and served a range of carriers as N722UA and later N902R after being sold by SAS in 1980. To Connie Kalitta in 2.88 and store at Greenville, MS from late 1999. B/u around 2005

This aircraft was built six years after man set foot on the moon.

Delivered new to Continental in November 1967 as N8912. Bought by Kalitta in June 1984. Seen on a sunny but snow-covered apron at Willow Run.
