In May 1989, the excellent collection at Monino added this Sopwith Triplane to its collection. It wears the Red Army roundel from 1917. This is one of only two genuine surviving Sopwith Triplanes. It is believed to have been built as N5486, which was supplied to the Russian government in 1917 for evaluation. Fitted with skis, it was later captured by the Bolshevists and used as a trainer in the Red Army. The airframe appears to be largely original, although the cowling and undercarriage are not.

The Soviet Union did not develop a its own strategic bomber before the end of WW II. On four occasions during 1944 however, B-29s made emergency landings in Soviet territory after bombing Japan. Three repairable B-29s were flown to Moscow and delivered to the Tupolev OKB enabling reverse-engineered copies to be produced in less than two years. This example is on display at the Central Museum of the Air Forces at Monino since October 1958!

False marked 212 white, derived from its construction number, is in fact bort 01 red. The Lavochkin La-15 was an early Soviet jet fighter and a contemporary of the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15, and served from 1949-1953. Only 235 were built, as the Soviet leadership favoured the MiG-15bis. In September 1958, this La-15 was first reported at the excellent museum in Monino.

The Norsk Luftfartsmuseum in Bodø has an interesting collection of aircraft on display, like this Pe-2fT front fuselage section. This Pe-2FT was operated by the 121 BBAP and took off with four others to attack a German convoy. It was shot at by a German fighter and was forced to make a landing at Kudalsfjellet mountain. It managed to shoot down Ju88D-1 0881055 before it landed here. The wreck of the Pe-2FT was brought down the mountain in 1989, restored and put on display in 1998.
