Rare visitors to Schiphol Airport today were a duo of US Army Mississippi ArNG Sherpas. This one was delivered in Sep 1990 as a C-23B (ex G-BSJJ), then converted to C-23C (upgraded avionics) in 2003. It became N423NA with the NASA (Goddard Space Flight Center) in Sep 2011, but that reg was cancelled in Oct 2014 and it may never have actually been operated by them. It was offered for sale in 2015, fate unknown.

This was officially accepted in May, 1942 and although not the first helicopter to see military service, the XR-4 was the first mass-produced helicopter and the first successful production rotorcraft of single-rotor configuration. The XR-4C came to the Smithsonian Institution in 1947 as part of a larger gift of aircraft transferred from the USAF to the new National Air Museum. It is now on display at the Udvar-Hazy Center.

The Messenger is the smallest manned aircraft ever used by the US Army and this example, the last remaining, is on display at the Udvar-Hazy Center. It was originally a Sperry Sport Plane but converted to M-1 configuration in the early 1960s. It is on display wearing the markings of the aircraft used in 1924 to make the first successful airship hook on and release in the air.
