If you zoom in you can see both pilots are looking over my shoulder at a lad filming them with a camcorder. What you can't hear is they were hitting the claxon button to say hello. The claxon is normally used when on standby to call all pilots to scramble for a wildfire.

While most Firecats were former Royal Canadian Navy trackers licensed built by De Havilland Canada, there were also a half dozen ex-US Navy S2Fs converted. This Firecat was originally 136600 with the US Navy retired to MASDC in 1980. Acquired by Conair in 1984, the firebomber conversion was completed by 1986. The aircraft was retired in 2012, but remained stored at Abbotsford. The last Conair operated Firecats were scrapped in the summer of 2020.

While most Firecats were former Royal Canadian Navy trackers licensed built by De Havilland Canada, there were also a half dozen ex-US Navy S2Fs converted. This Firecat was originally 136600 with the US Navy retired to MASDC in 1980. Acquired by Conair in 1984, the firebomber conversion was completed by 1986. The aircraft was retired in 2012, but remained stored at Abbotsford. The last Conair operated Firecats were scrapped in the summer of 2020.

Built in 1959, flew with Eastern Airlines for ten years. Then served with several operators in Honduras, being converted to freighter around 1977. Joined Conair Aviation in 1997 serving as a fire bomber, "Tanker 53". Transferred to Air Spray, in the same role, in 2000. Seen here on a brief detachment to Campbell River in the summer of 1999, to fight a forest fire which had broken out locally.

Conair Aviation purchased 11 former Flybe Dash 8-400s in 2021 for conversion to Dash 8-400AT air tankers with the installation of an external 10,000 litres (2,640 US gallons) retardant tank. The first couple aircraft flew directly to Abbotsford (YXX) for conversion, but later aircraft have flown from Europe to Muskoka Airport (YQA) in Ontario for painting while awaiting their slot on the conversion line at Abbotsford.
