Conair Aviation purchased 11 former Flybe Dash 8-400s in 2021 for conversion to Dash 8-400AT air tankers with the installation of an external 10,000 litres (2,640 US gallons) retardant tank. The first couple aircraft flew directly to Abbotsford (YXX) for conversion, but later aircraft have flown from Europe to Muskoka Airport (YQA) in Ontario for painting while awaiting their slot on the conversion line at Abbotsford. Four aircraft for Conair were present on Oct. 11.
