This was a nice surprise for me during my brief visit to LHSS. After I asked the pilot if I could photograph his chariot, he agreed but insisted on closing all the doors. No problem, that's actually better for me.

The Rubik R-26 Góbé is a family of Hungarian shoulder-wing, two-seat training gliders. After its introduction the type became the de facto training glider type in Hungary and is still used by many clubs for basic instruction. This example now hangs outside the entrance to a supermarket inside this shopping centre. And, yes, if you are wondering, the designer that gave his name to the type was Ernő Rubik Sr., the father of Rubik's Cube inventor Ernő Rubik.

This An-2 was first registered in April 1990 and is pictured about to be used as a parachute jump ship. For the past year or so the Hungarian AF has sub-contracted this plane in order to train military parachutists, the guys were preparing their gear out of shot. The number on the side is fictitious but the plane has this pseudo-military scheme in recognition of its new role.

This East German built Il-14 was delivered as 403 to the NVA with a cargo interior but without the large cargo door and seating for 24/28 passengers. It was re-registered 426 in November 1958 and used the call sign DM-VAL as neccessary. The plane was damaged after a belly landing at Schoenefeld (SXF) in August 1969 but repaired. It was finally wfu in December 1980 and flown for the last time to LHSN as gift to this (Hungarian AF) museum, where it was preserved in these fake colours. Alas, after the museum's closure its fate is rather bleak.

This 134 was built in April 1970 and delivered the following month to Malév as compensation for the loss of HA-LBA. Its last flight for the airline was Düsseldorf to Budapest on 11th April 1988, after which it was then withdrawn from the fleet and ferried the following month for its last flight to LHSN for preservation at this (now defunct) museum.

This Viggen was TOC by the Flygvapnet around 1982. In 1993 it then became the prototype for the conversion to JA-37D standard. This was an avionics and software upgrade of the older JA 37 version carried out between 1993 and 1998, of which some 35 airframes were modified. The plane was SOC in 2005 and transferred to this museum. which has since closed. This special tail is on the port side only.

Another Norwegian Air Sweden NTU which was delivered last week to Lynx Air as tail 805, despite being the 6th MAX to enter service. Seen here getting ready to depart on the evening run back to Calgary. One thing to note about all these Ex. Norwegian MAXs is the black strip on the leading edge of the wing. I've noticed it on the Swoop ones as well...
