Originally delivered to Braniff International as N7077 in March 1961, it served until sold to American Aviation Services in August 1973, re-registered N734T and operated in AeroAmerica livery. For a while it was was operated for Thunderbird Hotels and used to fly gamblers to Las Vegas from a number of USA cities, but from October 1974 on it was based at Berlin Tegel and operated inclusive tour charters to various European holiday destinations. By 1981 it had been withdrawn from use and parked at Seattle - Boeing Field where it was last noted in June 1983. (Credit: oldjets.net/ Mike Zoeller).

The aircraft now flies on the British register as G-DHZF, but is painted in military markings with the RAF serial N-9192 and unit code RCO-N.

Some of the participants in The Famous Grouse DH Moth Air Rally photographed from the Platform Tower at Hatfield on the eve of the event on 29th June 1979. As I recall it was every bit as cold and gloomy as it looks.

Photographed at Hatfield on the eve of The Famous Grouse DH Moth Air Rally, note the famous Hatfield aerodrome beacon in the background.

This was one of the two occasions that I flew in a VC-10 seen here as I was boarding for a flight to JFK. Most flights between LHR and JFK by that time were with Boeing 747-100 but a few remained with the VC-10 and I deliberately booked one of them. British Airways used a slogan' Love at first flight' one later used by Airbus for the A380.

Its is amazing that all of these aircraft fitted on the ramp at the same time.
