A few of the large number of Boeing 707s and 720s bought by Boeing in the 1980s to facilitate the conversion of KC-135As to turbofan power. The airliners donated their engines, pylons and throttle pedestals, as well as horizontal stabilisers, all of which were needed to carry out the upgrade. In this image, taken in rather dull weather, ex-Conair 720B TF-AYB (previously OY-APW) is on the left and on the right is ex-Saudia 707 N1673B (previously HZ-ACD). Both had arrived earlier in 1987.

Calair's D-ACIP is lining up on Riem's runway 07 on a summer day in 1971 (check the sightseeing bus in the background on the right). The Boeing 720 was noted at Riem on 31 July 1971, possibly the precise date for this shot.

Delivered to Eastern Air Lines as N8705E in 1961. To Conair of Scandinavia as OY-DSL in 1970 then to Independent Air/Atlanta Skylarks as N7229L in 1981. To Eagle International Ministries in 1986 and stored at San Diego-Brown Field. To Continental Aviation Company as VT-ERS and stored at Nagpur, India after making an emergency landing in 1991. Still there in 2025.

Delivered to Western Air Lines as N3143 in 1961. To Air Malta as 9H-AAK in 1978 then to AAR Allen Aircraft Corportation as N110DS in 1988 and stored at Marana, AZ. To Boeing in 1989 and used for parts in the KC-135E program at Davis-Monthan AFB.

Originally N7214U with United Airlines it was sold to Belize Airways in April 1976, registered VP-HCM in July 1976 and operated its first service for them on 1st October 1976. It was withdrawn from use at Miami in January 1980 and lingered on there before finally being broken up in March 1983. (Credit: Air-Britain Boeing 707, 720 and C-135 history).

Originally delivered to Braniff International as N7077 in March 1961, it served until sold to American Aviation Services in August 1973, re-registered N734T and operated in AeroAmerica livery. For a while it was was operated for Thunderbird Hotels and used to fly gamblers to Las Vegas from a number of USA cities, but from October 1974 on it was based at Berlin Tegel and operated inclusive tour charters to various European holiday destinations. By 1981 it had been withdrawn from use and parked at Seattle - Boeing Field where it was last noted in June 1983. (Credit: oldjets.net/ Mike Zoeller).

Owned by Hughes Aircraft Corp. this Boeing 720 was bailed to the USAF from October 93' to January 97' for 'Star Wars' flying lab work. Was scrapped at Mojave Airport.

Delivered to El Al as 4X-ABB in April 1962, to Jet Power as N8498T in December 1980 and leased to Central Airlines of Nigeria as N4228G in August 1981. Registered to Global International Airways in August 1983 but never operated and withdrawn to storage at Davis Monthan for use as parts in the KC-135E program. Scrapped in July 1991.
