This F2H-2P is wearing its correct Bureau Number but is painted as an F2H-2P of VMJ-1, which it was never assigned to. 126673 actually was assigned to VMJ-2 at Cherry Point, N.C. and later to VC-62 at NAS Jacksonville, FL. While with VC-62 it made a cruise aboard USS Coral Sea from March 1955 - August 1955. It was retired from USN service in July 1958. It was then transferred to Vero Beach, FL. where it was displayed in a park. It was acquired by the museum in 1989 and restored to its present condition. Under the nose are two aerial cameras on display.

On 6 April 1949 this AM-1 set an unofficial payload weight record for single engine piston a/c of 10,689 pounds. Over its short USN career it was assigned to Naval Air Training Units at St. Louis, MO. and NAS Atlanta, GA. After being stricken from use it was transferred to the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. Fortunately it wasn't used as a target and was transferred to the museum in early 1972. I took this slide not long after it had arrived and was in storage on the Naval Air Rework Facility ramp.

This a/c made the first landing at the geographic south pole on 31 October 1956. Here it is next to the restoration hangar at the museum. It was undergoing some final cleaning and touch up in preparation for being suspended from the ceiling in the new (opened fall 2010) Hangar Bay One building.

Still basically in the markings of its last active unit, the Navy Recruiting Command. After leaving there, it was loaned to the Jacksonville Navy Flying Club w/FAA registration N20685. On 26 August 2000 it was involved in a landing mishap at NAS Jacksonville which damaged the right wing. It was then transferred to the museum in 2004 where it was modified for use in the Kiddyland area in the main building. Normally the canopies are open for access to the cockpits, but are currently closed due to Covid restrictions (2021). Originally built as T-34B BuNo. 143996.

The S-3B was temporarily located just outside Hangar Bay One to make room for a USCG ceremony being held inside. The numeral "1" after "Navy" on the fuselage is in recognition of this S-3 being the only USN a/c to have carried a sitting President of the U.S., that being George W. Bush. The a/c was transferred to the museum in 2003.

The museum recently completed the restoration of 163508. This F/A-18C, with LCDR Mark Fox piloting, shot down an Iraqi F-7A (Chinese MiG-21 variant) on 17 January 1991 on the first day of Operation Desert Storm. A Sidewinder missile was used for the kill. After the engagement (another F-7A was downed by LCDR Fox' wingman) the flight of four Hornets continued on their strike mission. The target was the Al Walid airfield, where each a/c expended four Mk.84 2000 pound bombs on the target.
