KLM services out of Sydney stopped at Manila in 1969, as they had done since the days of the Super Constellation. By 1971 the need for speed saw KLM's now twice weekly DC-8-63 service go directly to Singapore. -DCM became YV-C-VIG with Viasa in 1974.

After her first 14 years spent with KLM as "Sir Isaac Newton", this DC-8 was sold to Viasa in 1975. Although bought by Aeronaves del Peru in 1984, she remained in store at Opa-locka as was broken up next year. We take for granted nowadays a choice of views to shoot thanks to zoom lenses, but it occurs to me that the angle here was forced by my old fixed 200mm
